Dr Isabella Calder is a Senior Lecture in Criminology

After obtaining her PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Isabella went on to become a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge (CCHPR) and then King’s College London (ICPR). Following on from research Isabella went in to teaching, first as a class teacher at the LSE and then as a lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland.  

Currently Isabella teaches on an undergraduate and master course in criminology.  She supervises a number of PhD students in areas such as: Indeterminate and Life prison sentences; Internet Platforms and Sex Work; Homelessness, and Crypto Drugs Markets.  She is a co-leader of research into Crime People, Justice and Security at the Institute of Social Justice and is undertaking research around the use of top-up-shops.

Isabella has worked on, designed and managed a number of research projects and evaluations for: The Ministry of Justice; National Health Service; Metropolitan Police Service; Local Government as well as charities including the Royal Society of Arts and the St Giles Trust.  Much of her research has focused on the Police and Prison Service.

Currently undertaking research with colleagues on Regional challenge of re-homing rough sleepers during the Covid -19 Pandemic with a focus on Suffolk.
