FdA Continuing Care

Overview

This course has been developed to meet the education and training requirements of small and medium sized enterprises in the local care sector. It offers students the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills at the same time as gaining a recognised qualification in care.

The course offers students a chance to study on a part-time basis at degree level, whilst still in employment and is tailored to the role that students are currently in.

Work-based learning forms a substantial part of this course. The onus is on students to gather evidence to meet the outcomes within the work-based learning handbook, with support from a named member of staff who will be appropriately qualified and experienced to guide them as and when necessary.

On completion of the course students will have the competences and the underpinning knowledge to progress in the current role they are working in. Students can also progress to the final year of an Honours degree at UCS.

Content and Modules

The course comprises of eight modules. Each module includes teaching in the classroom and via the the UCS Virtual Learning Environment, known as Wolsey. This allows students to discuss and learn with their peers whilst in practice.

The course is normally delivered during twilight or evening teaching hours, with students attending campus once a fortnight.

The emphasis is on providing a flexible programme with both core and optional modules that will meet students learning needs and the needs of their work place.

  • Communication and Team Work
  • Infection Control
  • Continence and Elimination Needs
