FdA Football Development and Coaching

Course summary

This course aims to provide an insight into the issues and concepts involved in football development, as well as the practical realities and underpinning knowledge needed to deliver safe and effective coaching programmes within communities. Combining classroom teaching with practical and work-based activities, students will become confident practitioners whilst appreciating the key policies and practices involved in delivering football programmes to a range of groups.

Course structure

Modules include: Coaching Principles, Introduction to Sports Development, Football in the Community, Football Development, Sports Marketing, Football for Special Populations, Sport Management, Introduction to Sport Psychology, Fitness for Football, and Football and Society.

Students will also obtain key industry coaching qualifications.

Work placements

Local community sport schemes, after school clubs, youth leagues/coaching, holiday schemes and other development projects will be made available to students to access. Links will be made with overseas opportunities if students wish to travel abroad during the summer break.

Assessment

There will be a variety of assessment modes, including in-class tests, written and practical examinations, reflective journals, essays, projects and individual and group presentations.

Assessment of coursework, including practical projects and academic assignments takes place at the end of each semester.

After the course

Core areas of graduate employment include football development officers, sport development officers, sports facility professionals, fitness professionals, football administration, coaching, personal training, and health promotion officers.
