Postgraduate Diploma Personnel Management (full-time)
What does the course involve?
This course is based on the professional standards of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), who provide a benchmark for the personnel profession. The course is designed in accordance with the CIPD professional standards and is intended for those preparing for a career in personnel management.
The course aims to provide a coherent and integrated programme of study that satisfies the needs of students and employers. It develops students’ intellectual abilities, enables students to implement personnel management based solutions to organisational issues, enables students to exploit personnel management related sources of strategic advantage, and broadens students’ managerial competencies.
What topics will I study?
This course is modular in style and is taught using a wide range of both applied and academic approaches. Extensive use is made of industry speakers. The course is delivered and assessed in accordance with CIPD standards.
In the first semester, students study modules on Managing for Results, Managing in a Strategic Business Context, Managing Information for a Competitive Advantage, People Management and Development, and Employee Reward. In the second semester students study modules on People Resourcing, Learning and Development, Employee Relations, Employment Law, the Management Research Report, and Continuing Professional Development.
How will I be assessed?
Most modules are assessed by a combination of written assignments and examinations. Some skills assessments are also undertaken. Students undertake a five week work placement in a personnel setting or a human resources function. A management report is completed and should focus on a topic agreed with the work placement provider.
