Applying to start September 2009

Welcome to the University Campus Suffolk Clearing and course vacancies page.  If you would like to apply for a course starting this September don't worry, it's not too late.  University Campus Suffolk has staff ready to receive your enquiry, so if you have yet to receive confirmation of an offer from another university, are thinking about returning to study part-time, or are only now considering your options, University Campus Suffolk will be able to help. 

We hope that you will find all of the information you need under the following headings and we look forward to hearing from you.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is simply the name given to the last stage of the Admissions cycle, and it provides a final opportunity for any applicants without places to be considered by institutions with vacancies for a place at university for September 2009. The term ‘Clearing’ really refers to full-time undergraduate degree courses however if you are interested in either part-time or postgraduate study we also have vacancies on many of these courses. To apply for any part-time or postgraduate course please follow the link to our online application form|.

Applicants are eligible to apply for full-time undergraduate courses through Clearing if:

  • they haven’t met the conditions of accepted offers
  • they have not received any offers
  • they were unsuccessful with their original choice
  • they turned down or have not replied to all the offers from their original choices and as such are not holding any offers
  • they applied after 30 June 2009 (11 June 2009 for Route B courses)
  • they haven’t yet applied for a course but now wish to

What courses are available at University Campus Suffolk for September 2009?

For a full list of the courses available for entry in September 2009 click here|. Here you will find detailed course information and entry requirements for each course. Don’t be deterred if you fall just short of our entry requirements, there may still be opportunities for you to study at University Campus Suffolk.

University Campus Suffolk has a number of places available, however some programmes fill up very quickly and therefore we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible.

Unfortunately we do not currently have any vacancies for September 2009 on the following courses:

  • DipHE/BSc Adult Nursing
  • DipHE Operating Department Practice
  • BSc (Hons) Midwifery
  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography
  • BA (Hons) Social Work

UCAS will publish a list of full-time courses as part of the interactive course vacancy service on the UCAS website from Thursday 20th August 2009 until Monday 21st September 2009. This vacancy information will be continually updated throughout the Clearing period.

University Campus Suffolk will also have official vacancies listed in The Independent and The Independent on Sunday from Thursday 20 August 2009 to Thursday 10 September 2009.

How do I apply to start a course in September 2009?

Applying for a full-time undergraduate course

If you are already in the UCAS system:

  • Contact us on the University Campus Suffolk Clearing Hotline number 01473 338352
  • Check TRACK on the UCAS website to see if you are eligible to use Clearing. (It is important that you check TRACK as UCAS will not send you anything in the post to tell you if you are eligible)
  • TRACK will show your unique Clearing number and an “Add Clearing Choice” button will appear on the screen
  • University Campus Suffolk will ask you for this number when you contact us. We will then be able to view your application immediately

If you have not yet applied through UCAS:

  • Contact us on the UCS Clearing Hotline number 01473 338352
  • You can still complete an application up until 21st September and you will automatically be entered into Clearing
  • Alternatively, if you have not already applied through UCAS you can still enquire at University Campus Suffolk and if you are successful we will register you with UCAS on your behalf and at no cost to you

Applying for a part-time or postgraduate course

  • Apply by completing our online application form
  • Alternatively, you are welcome to visit University Campus Suffolk where you can speak to a member of The Admissions Team and your application can be made in person.

How can I contact University Campus Suffolk about course vacancies?

The University Campus Suffolk Clearing Hotline telephone number is:

Trained Student Ambassadors and Admissions staff are waiting for your call.

The number is staffed between 9am and 5pm on weekdays and until 8pm on Wednesday 26th August.

Outside of these hours messages will be received by voicemail and dealt with as soon as possible.

It is advised that you contact us yourself as our Admissions tutors, dedicated Student Ambassadors and Admissions staff will want to speak to you in person to help you make the right decision on your next step.

You will need to let us know:

  • What course you want to study
  • Your qualifications/results
  • Your UCAS Personal ID number and/or Clearing Number (if full-time and if available)
  • Your email address/telephone number

Clearing open house
If you prefer you can come in and speak with a member of staff at University Campus Suffolk between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. You do not need to book an appointment and you will be able to speak with staff about course vacancies and your personal situation. You will also be able to get a feel for the campus and possibly chat to Student Ambassadors.

Virtual question and answer sessions
If you have a specific question that you would like to ask a member of University Campus Suffolk staff, we will be holding virtual question and answer sessions via the forum on our website. Specialist staff will be available on the following days awaiting questions on their specific topic:

What happens once I have submitted my details/application to University Campus Suffolk?

Your enquiry/application will be reviewed by an academic member of staff who will make the decision on whether you are successful in gaining a place at University Campus Suffolk.

If you are made an offer to study for a full-time, part-time or postgraduate course at University Campus Suffolk you will receive a letter confirming this.

Within this letter will be your log-in details for the University Campus Suffolk Applicant Portal. The portal is designed to equip you with all the information you need as you prepare for university. It includes detailed information on Orientation at University Campus Suffolk and Student Life.

Accepting an offer

  • If you have received an offer for a full-time undergraduate course and you are in the UCAS system you will need to add our course and institution details on TRACK through UCAS. UCAS will send you a Confirmation letter once your place is officially confirmed.
  • If you have received an offer for a full-time undergraduate course but you have not applied through the UCAS system you will need to return the completed Record of Prior Acceptance Form (RPA) to University Campus Suffolk. UCAS will send you a Confirmation letter once your place is officially confirmed.
  • If you have received an offer for a part-time or postgraduate course you need to return the reply to offer slip enclosed in your offer letter. Alternatively please email admissionsucs.ac.uk to confirm your acceptance.

Open Events

If you would like to speak to a member of our academic staff or to find out more about University Campus Suffolk and the courses on offer why not come along to our Advice Evening or our Clearing Open Day. Alternatively you may have been offered a place and you may wish to come to look around, meet the staff and get a feel for the place. If the course you are interested in is based in Ipswich this can also include having a tour of our brand new Waterfront building.

Additional help

There is financial support from the government to help with the costs of higher education. There are loans, grants and bursaries available to support you throughout your studies. Confirmation of results

Results Day
From mid July the University Campus Suffolk Admissions team will be receiving results for applicants holding CF/CI places. You will be able to check whether your place has been confirmed on UCAS Track from the day your results are published. If you have only just missed your grades and we have places available then there may still be a place for you on a course at University Campus Suffolk. Whilst we try to make decisions as quickly as possible in some cases it may be take a few days before we are able to let you know whether you have been successful or not.

Adjustment Period Vacancies
You may be aware that UCAS has introduced a procedure called the Adjustment Period which enables applicants who have performed better than they expected to apply for a course with entry requirements which match their new higher grades. At University Campus Suffolk all courses that currently have vacancies will be available for applicants who wish to apply via this route or through Clearing.

Please visit the UCAS website www.ucas.com| to find out more about the Adjustment Period and how to register. You will only be able to register for the Adjustment Period if the grades you have obtained exceed the grades stated in the conditions of your offer.
