The School offers an established undergraduate BA (Hons) Social Work which leads to eligibility to apply to the General Social Care Council as a registered Social Worker. The programme is also offered as a part time route for work based students who are employed and seconded by their employer. The undergraduate programme is supported by “Users of services” in regard to learning and teaching activities and assessment. The team have developed robust working partnerships with practitioners who supervise students in placement areas. The school is currently beginning to work towards offering PQ Social Work programmes for established Social Work practitioners.

The School’s vision and learning activities are grounded in the need for academic learning to be relevant and applicable to professional practice. Therefore within the Health programmes, lecturers and Course leaders are linked with clinical practice areas. Courses are offered in Specialist Practice both within the Acute & Critical Care and Community setting. The courses offered are developed in partnership with employers i.e. NHS Trusts and PCTs etc, to ensure that the academic awards will enhance professional knowledge and practice. These programmes are also validated by professional bodies such as the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Health Professions Council (HPC). There are a number of modules which can be taken as “stand alone” both at undergraduate and masters level of study. The majority of students within the School are funded via their employer’s allocation of the Strategic Health Authority Post-registration contract. From this academic year this funding is also available to Allied Health Professionals (AHPS).

The school has a reputation for developing new programmes/modules/workshops in response to practice needs. Therefore in Social work and health, the teams have developed a range of strategies to work in partnership with practitioners. The key driver is to support practitioners in Health and Social care to deliver quality care and support to clients and patients.
