Sarah Jacques is a Lecturer in Fine Art and Level One tutor.
Her formal art education began with a Diploma Foundation at Ravensbourne Design and Communication College, Kent where she was taught by John Hewitt MA RCA. In 1991, Sarah was awarded First-Class Honours for her BA in Fine Art at the University of East London, where she specialised in painting and printmaking. Her tutors included Rachel Whiteread, Amanda Faulkner and Philip King.
Subsequently, Sarah gained an MA in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art. Among her tutors were Tony Cragg, Richard Wentworth, Helen Chadwick and Tim Mara. During her period of study at the Royal College, she won several awards including the Daler-Rowney Drawing Award and a travel scholarship to Baroda University, India.
Throughout her student career, Sarah worked in the Tate Gallery (now Tate Britain) during weekends and holidays. In 1994 she gained an artists' residency at Chelsea and Kensington College for one year. Post-degree qualifications, Sarah participated in a painting exhibition at Flowers East Gallery. She studied for a P.G.C.E. in Art and Design at Goldsmiths College, gaining the qualification in 1995 and also taught in two London High Schools, teaching Art and Music to A-level students.
Before coming to Suffolk in 1996, Sarah also worked as a visiting Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Courses at DeMontfort University and University of East London; in addition, she was invited by the Pratt Institute, New York, to present and lecture on her work.
As a tutor, Sarah believes that if someone is talented they should not be impeded by a disability. She took the opportunity to gain a Diploma Certificate in British Sign Language in order to be able to assist students suffering from deafness. This certificate complements her Registered General Nursing qualification, before her art education.
Since being employed at UCS, Sarah's role has consolidated the variety of her previous experience in many aspects of art and design. Bringing her imaginative flair to the Fine Arts programme, she continues to pursue her own work, which is collected and exhibited internationally.
