University Campus Suffolk (UCS) is pleased to announce an 11.2% increase (as at 24 March 2009) in applications to all its  full-time  courses across Suffolk and Great Yarmouth.

UCAS have today announced an 8.8% increase in the number of applicants to UK universities and colleges compared to this time last year, placing University Campus Suffolk above the national average.

The UCS Learning Network, with centres in Bury St Edmunds, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Otley and in Ipswich at Suffolk New College, has seen the biggest increase, with a 39% rise in applications compared to last year.

University Campus Suffolk continues to attract a large number of local students, but has also seen a number of applications from the surrounding counties, across the UK and a small number from the EU.

Lucy Whitmore, Head of Admissions for UCS, said; "We are very pleased to see an increase in demand for places. This increase in applications further cements the importance of university level education being available locally, particularly during a time of economic difficulty. We are seeing a number of people returning to studying, to either retrain or up skill, making themselves more appealing to employers or more confident in their current profession."

UCS will continue to welcome applications for some of its courses, and is expected to see the demand for places increase further over the next few months.
