UCS is shortlisted for Times Higher Education Award

Staff at University Campus Suffolk (UCS) are celebrating today at being short listed for a Times Higher Education Award for the Widening Participation Initiative of the Year category.
UCS is one of just six universities who have been short listed for the Award, which is supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
UCS was short listed for the Award due to its commitment to addressing the low participation rates in Suffolk and the sub-region. Widening participation is central to the mission of UCS, with only 12 per cent of full-time students funded by HEFCE having parents with managerial and professional occupational backgrounds. Student bursaries are generous, and support is on hand from the UCS Learning Development Centre and the online virtual learning environment portal, which includes a special portal for new applicants.
Richard Lister, Director of Planning at Resources at UCS said " We are absolutely delighted that the work that we have done in the short time that we have been in existence has been recognised. Widening participation and increasing opportunity for students in our region is at the very heart of what we were set up to do. I am very pleased with what we have done so far and we are committed to transforming the education landscape in Suffolk and beyond"
The results for the awards will be announced on 23 October at an Awards Ceremony in London.
