University Campus Suffolk students stage production of Antigone
Nov 30 2007 12:00AM
University Campus Suffolk students will be staging a production of Don Taylor’s adaptation of Sophcles’ Antigone at Argyle Street Studio next week from 5 – 7 December.
The students, who are currently in their second year of the BA (Hons) Performing Arts degree, are performing in the production as well as organising all areas of production from the lighting, sound and scenery, to costumes and marketing. The production will count toward the students’ final award.
Antigone is a story about the relationship between public and private morality and a conflict of ideals between the two central characters Creon and Antigone.
The play has been chosen because of its grand themes, powerful language and the opportunity it provides for creativity in all areas of production including, movement and music. In Don Taylor's adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone the language is more accessible to the contemporary audience without losing the power and universatility of the story.
The play is directed by John Adam-Baker, who was the New Wolsey Theatre youth theatre Director and workshop leader up to 2006 and currently holds the position of Cultural Facilitator.
The production is taking place at the Argyle St Studio, Ipswich, from 5 - 7 December. Performances start at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and £2.50 for concessions and are available from the Box Office on 07857569529.
