UCS welcomes two new leadership appointments

University Campus Suffolk (UCS) is delighted to welcome Chrissie Harrington as Associate Dean of the Suffolk School of Arts. Before joining UCS Chrissie was Principal Lecturer and Head of Department of Dance at Bath Spa University. She was also a Teaching Fellow of Bath Spa University, the Artswork Performancelab Senior Teaching Fellow for Bath Spa’s CETL (Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning) and in 2004 she was awarded a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy.

Chrissie has worked extensively in Higher Education and published widely. She has been at the forefront of developments of the discipline of Dance in HE, most recently through her own research, ‘Architecting the Body’, which explores the relationship between the body, architecture and digital media, and through her role as initiator, designer and leader of a distinctive programme of Dance at Bath Spa University. Chrissie has also been responsible for the devising and delivery of initial teacher training programmes that have been informed by her pedagogical research. She has a wide interest in arts practice and management, including the application of digital media and has undertaken professional work in Poland, USA and New Zealand.

Welcoming the appointment Dr Peter Funnell, Director of Enterprise and Executive Dean at UCS said:

"Chrissie Harrington will bring enormous professional competence and a passion for high quality teaching and learning to our vibrant and ambitious arts provision. In recent months we have developed significant new links with the Arts Council and regional arts organisations and I am delighted that Chrissie will be in a position to build on these whilst leading the development of our arts provision in line with regional and national requirements."

Dr Funnell also confirmed that the Arts School’s previous Associate Dean, Brian Holder will be taking up a new role in the newly formed Centre for Applied Sustainability (CAS). Dr Funnell said;

"The development of the low carbon and sustainability agendas are of vital concern to UCS. Brian Holder is a hugely experienced educational manager who will bring considerable drive and professional insight into this work allowing us to develop new course provision and areas of research competence in the future."
