UCS and Aimhigher Suffolk's First Roadshow Visits Ipswich

Nov 30 2006 12:00AM

The first University Campus Suffolk (UCS) and Aimhigher Suffolk roadshow for the 2006/07 academic year will be held on Friday 1st December 2006 at Suffolk College for Ipswich schools; Thurleston High and Northgate High.

Nine roadshows will be held at the four Further Education Colleges in the coming months for a selection of Year 10 students from all Suffolk High Schools. Students will take part in three interactive workshops on student life; progression opportunities and finance and budgeting that will be delivered by the UCS and Aimhigher Suffolk teams with the assistance of 5 student ambassadors, who are currently studying undergraduate degrees at Suffolk College. The aim of the roadshow is to target those students who have no family history of higher education to give them a taste of university life and is an opportunity for them to find out more about the options available.

It is the second year that UCS and Aimhigher Suffolk have worked together on the event and Julian Illman, Aimhigher Suffolk Area Manager said of the partnership, ‘Aimhigher Suffolk has been delighted to joint run with UCS a series of roadshows aimed at bringing to young people in school and further education the benefits of Higher Education, within the context of an exciting new University Campus for Suffolk. We see this as integral to widening participation, by bringing roadshows to those who in the future will hopefully aspire to Higher Education."

Richard Lister, Director of Academic Planning and Resources for University Campus Suffolk said, "We are delighted with the continued working partnership with Aimhigher Suffolk. These roadshows are not only a great opportunity to encourage year ten students to continue their studies onto higher education, but to show them the exciting developments that are happening now with University Campus Suffolk."
