I had decided that I would like to have a full time job during the summer after the second year of my degree course at University Campus Suffolk. Conveniently, an University Campus Suffolk Careers email arrived offering Internship places at companies such as Willis, AXA and BT.
With my background in Web Development, the Internships offered at BT appealed quite heavily, and I contacted my Careers Adviser for more information. I was informed of the Open Day that had been arranged for the BT Internships, this allowed us to gather more information about the work, meet and talk to the people we would potentially be working with. It was an ideal opportunity to ask them what the role required and to provide them with my CV. I was accepted for interview a few weeks later and was delighted to be offered an Internship a few days later.
The role I had at BT was both intriguing and exciting. It involved creating a multimedia project that hadn't really been tried before, using digital content generated by people in order to answer questions and challenges. My skills in HTML, CSS and Website design were ideally suited to being integral in this project. I helped build a prototype application, ensuring the content of the site was usable and accessible to all, and also helped to design the layout of the website which will eventually be a key part of the project.
The Internship was a great experience and one I'd recommend any student jump at, when they are given the chance. I would strongly suggest signing up to the University Campus Suffolk Careers email service as this is where you get to hear about these opportunities first hand, as well as fantastic advice about putting together a CV, interview techniques and finding the career suited to you after you have completed your degree.
