I can say I was very fortunate and lucky; fortunate to get the opportunity and lucky enough to make use of it.
I first heard about the Internships at Willis through the University Campus Suffolk Careers and Employability Service. In the beginning I didn't think that the Internship was something for me, but my friend convinced me that I should try it. Why not?
I went to the meeting with Willis representatives and I absolutely loved it. I knew that the Internship at Willis would be the right move, and would give me the opportunity to get experience within a global company.
From the beginning Willis treated us very professionally; not just as students that had come to participate for a few months work experience, but as the new employees. We were asked to provide a professional CV and covering letter, and attend a two-stage interview. It wasn't an easy recruitment process, but it gave me the experience in writing a CV, attending a job interview, behaving professionally and getting a feel for a global company and its demands. It was a valuable experience for someone who will be looking for job in a two years time.
Whilst at Willis I was involved in a variety of day to day activities in the Accountancy and Settlement Department. Everything was planned and prepared very professionally. Every day I was given tasks to do which helped me understand the insurance industry, working as a team and the advantages and demands of work within a global company.
I enjoyed every day at Willis. This Internship gave me experience and confidence, and has convinced me a business environment is the right place for me.
