Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
At UCS we harness the latest technology and learning techniques to help you learn in a way that suits you. UCS offers an innovative and modern approach to learning and virtual learning is popular across our whole Learning Network.
The VLE, known as Wolsey, allows students to access announcements, timetables, assignments, course and module documents, discussion boards, and more, 24 hours a day from any internet connected device. It is also the primary method for lecturers to communicate with students, and students with each other, across the Learning Network. It creates new opportunities for innovative and interactive methods of communicating, assessment, learning and teaching.
The Elevate Team enhance learning through innovative technologies, and are responsible for Wolsey. The team work closely with staff and students to encourage, enable and evaluate the use of technology in learning and teaching at the UCS. The outcome for the student is a richer learning experience. In particular to:
An evaluation of an innovative use of an electronic based learning activity in the School of Science, Technology and Health, identified that students found it a very effective learning resource, with one suggesting;
“I enjoyed using the material that was provided for the e-learning. I felt motivated to explore materials further at the time which is not possible in the classroom environment and motivation is not always sustained at a later time. I could follow the session at my own pace and retrace if I needed to."
