Here at UCS we recommend that referencing should follow the principles of the Harvard Referencing style. We have produced the following leaflets to help you reference and cite materials you use in your assignments. Further information can be found through the book
Pears, R. and Shields, G. (2010) Cite them right; the essential referencing guide. 8th edn. Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan.
Sometimes courses have specific requirements for citing materials - always check you course handbook for any requirements.
If you would like extra help, you can attend a scheduled session, provided by the Learning Development Team|, or ask us at the Help Desk.
Reference management tools
There are many reference management tools that can be used to help you collect and manage your references, and to generate bibliographies at the end of your assignments.
We have recently conducted a trial, and are now recommending RefWorks| as the tool to be used across UCS.
Over the next year we will be working closely with our colleagues in Learning Development, and with courses to encourage you to make use of this tool, and to provide training in how to use it.
Access is also available to the EndNote Web| tool, via Web of Knowledge.
