The interlibrary loans service can help you gain access to materials that are not held at the Ipswich site. Remember as well as the Ipswich site, you can borrow materials from the other Learning Centres, and University of East Anglia library, see the pages on using other libraries for information on how to use these libraries.
Finding relevant materials
Materials which may broaden your research can be found through reading lists and database searches. Once you have your reference, make sure it is not available through a UCS or UEA subscription e-resource. If you would like help to search databases and check references, contact your Subject Liaison Librarian.
Requesting materials - books and journals
Materials should be requested on either a book form or a journal form, which are available at the library Issue Desk, and Helpdesk.You should complete as much information as possible for the reference, and sign the copyright declaration. the completed from can be handed in at either library desk.
Requesting theses
Requesting theses from UK institutions is done through the British Library's EThOS service. International these may be available digitally through online institutional repositories. For further information, see Finding theses|.
Receiving your articles and books
All journal articles are yours to keep. Book will be loaned in line with the lending library's issue dates, and it may be possible to request a renewal. You can request book loans up to your limit of loan allowance|. You account balance must also not exceed the £5.00 borrowing limit.
The standard turn around time for requests is 3-5 working days. However, we may not be able to borrow it immediately from the British Library if they do not have a copy available, or we have to try other locations.
Renewing your interlibrary loan
We will need to make a renewal request to the lending library on your behalf. Sometimes a library indicates that no renewal is possible at the time of borrowing. Renewals can be requested by telephone or at either library desk.
Returning your interlibrary loan
Books should be returned to the library Issue Desk. If an item is returned late overdue charges of 10p per day will be added to your account.
Fees
In order to comply with copyright legislation, a small fee of £1.00 must be paid for each journal article requested. this will be added to your account if you can not pay at the time, and will be refunded if the item is found within the local collections. No fee is payable for book requests or renewals.
If a book is lost while you have it on loan, full replacement costs will be added to your account. The British Library charges a standard fee, which is currently £137.50
