Copyright

Copyright law gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works the ability to control ways their work is used and to earn a fair reward for that use. In order to facilitate the use of some of these works to enhance learning and teaching at UCS, the Ipswich library has signed agreements including a comprehensive Copyright Licensing Agency Licence and the Educational Recording Agency (ERA) Licence.

What does this allow you to do?

Under the Comprehensive Copyright Licence you are able to provide digital copies of book chapters and journal articles through the VLE. In short, the guidelines for use are:

  • UCS must hold a paper or digital copy of the source or a pre-existing copyright fee-paid copy. Personal copies are not covered by the licence.
  • you must notify the library that you intend to make a copy available, via the VLE, to a designated cohort, or designated cohorts, so that it can be recorded on the annual return to the Copyright Licensing Agency.
  • you must include the scanning cover sheet at the front of the digital copy. this will be returned to you by the library.
  • If the library does not have a copy of the resource, we will apply for a copyright fee-paid copy from the British Library. We are now able to receive digital copies of journal articles and book chapters directly from the British Library.

If you have any queries about the service, please contact Ellen Buck|, Library Services Manager,

The ERA licence allows us to provide access to off-air recordings to support study courses. these off-air recordings are available through planet e-stream.
