The Post Graduate programme in Education for Health and Social Care Professionals is offered by the UCS School of Nursing and Midwifery at three levels - certificate, diploma and Master of Arts.
The post-graduate certificate (PGC) element is outlined below.
The PGC is designed to address the development needs of those new to education and training and those with experience. The programme appeals to a range of professionals who have an interest in education from a health and social care background, from those who are institutionally based to those in the wider community, for example, school nurses, district nurses, AHPs and health and social care professionals in the private sector. On succesful completion there is the opportunity to continue with the diploma and then full Master of Arts.
All teaching on this programme will take place at UCS. UCS makes good use of the virtual learning environment - VLE. Each module comprises about six day's worth of teaching, you will be expected to undertake additional self-directed study.
You will also complete a portfolio of 'teaching' related to your practice area.
The postgraduate certificate meets a number of standards.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
-
Learning and teaching in context - this module introduces the theory and philosophy of education. The assessment is an essay type assignment.
-
Assessment in context - does what it says in the title. The assessment is twofold, a presentation and an assignment.
-
Professional role development - this is where you will evidence teaching, learning and assessment in your discipline. The evidential load varies depending on which standards you wish to meet. Assessment consists of a portfolio and a written assignment.
|
If you don't wish to commit to the full Post Graduate Certificate but would like to mee the PEAS, APPLE, ACE or NMC mentorship standards then the single Supporting Practice Learning| module is worth considering.
This 'M' level (level 7) module can also be accredited towards the PGC in Education. You would not then take the Learning and teaching in context module.
For AHPs who teach, supervise and assess in practice, and for nurses and midwives who teach, supervise, assess and mentor in practice, this might be the module for yoou and could then be the stepping stone should you decide to undertake the full PGC or indeed full MA
