Qualificatory courses in teaching and assessing

The School of Health, Science and Social Care and the School of Nursing and Midwifery offer a range of courses for Health and Social Care professionals who want to gain accreditation from their regulatory bodies in teaching and assessing students in practice learning.

 

FULL COURSES LEADING TO ACADEMIC AWARD

The post graduate study route in education for health and social care professionals is aimed at all graduate qualified practitoners who have an interest in developing their skills in education for the professions. There are options to study for a post graduate certificate (PGCE) at 60 credits, a post graduate diploma of 120 credits or a Masters degree (MA(Ed)) at 180 credits and including a dissertation.

SINGLE MODULES (that may be credited toward future academic award)

Preparation for Mentorship. This is a level 6 (honours level) module of study. Participants (excepting Operating Department Practitioners) already holding degree level qualifications may undertake an uncredited module. This will not have a formal written assignment but will require participants to produce a work based portfolio to evidence achievment. For others, this module with a formal written assignment will provide 20 credits at level 6. It is aimed at qualified nurses, midwives and operating department practitioners and is the minimum standard in practice based education recognised by the Nursing & Midwifery Council. The 20 credit option of this module can be taken as part of a package of study leading to a first degree.

Supporting Practice Learning, is a level 7 ('M' level) module of study. It is aimed at Radiographers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses and Midwives with existing honours level qualifcations (or with evidence of succesful study at honours level) who wish to meet the standards set by their regulatory bodies for student supervision under PEAS, APPLE, ACE or SLAiP requirements. This module can form part of a package of study leading to a Masters degree.
