Course Pathway
MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice (Advanced Nurse Practitioner)
This pathway is appropriate for nurses working in the acute or primary health care setting who wish to continue to develop their knowledge & skills in order to allow them to work autonomously within their own area of clinical expertise. The qualified nurse practitioner will be a registered nurse who has undertaken this programme of study in order to develop the skills of critical thinking, decision making and the ability to assess and treat within their sphere of practice and within the NMC code of Conduct (NMC, 2008). Assessment will comprise of a theoretical component as well as a core competency package based upon the RCN Advanced Practitioner Competencies. Post-programme opportunities are detailed below:

Such roles reflect Department of Health policy initiatives and inter-professional working. Of equal importance is the potential for the programme to act as a springboard to Doctoral level study.
The students will have the opportunity to 'step off' the course with a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Healthcare Practice at the end of year two.
