Communication Process for Mentors

There are some issues and situations in the support of students that raise concerns for their Mentor about how they might respond or who they should seek support and advice from.

These situations are often easier to deal with if the Mentor has a clear idea about what action they can take, or, a knowledge of who they or their student should approach for further guidance or action.

In our experience there are commonly recuring issues that impact on students in practice. The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy at Nottingham University have grouped these issues in three categories which we have, with permisssion, borrowed. The links below will take you to information that may aid the resolution of problems arising during student practice placement.

Academic Issues| - Where, for instance, a student is expressing or demonstrating a need for support in the preparation of course work for submission to and/or assessment by the University.

Practice Learning Issues| - Where, for instance, there are concerns about a students ability to meet their practice learning outcomes. This may be because of attendance patterns or because of the students individual performance levels.

Pastoral Issues| - Where, for instance, events outside the course or internal to the student are affecting the students performance in practice.
