Research Activity

The School of Business, Leadership and Enterprise is increasingly involved in research and knowledge transmission in areas of national and international concern and recent appointments reflect this dimension.

 

Current Research Activity

The new Head of School, Professor David Weir, has an international reputation in the fields of intercultural management, migration and career patterns, organisation and leadership especially in the Arab Middle East and Islamic worlds, and publishes widely and presents at conferences on these topics. He has written and edited 12 books and published many articles and book chapters.

The Head of the Business Division, Geoffrey Wootten, as well as his Marketing and Selling interests is an acknowledged expert on the Napoleonic period and has written a number of articles and books on the subject. His book on Waterloo is described as “arguably the best introduction to the battle currently available.” He has also written a book in the prestigious Financial Times Business series on Selling.

The School has a broad expertise in various aspects of Leadership and Enterprise including Women in Leadership, and is concerned with various dimensions of the regional enterprise and leadership agenda including internships and employability. Several members of the School are researching pedagogic topics including the value of independent study. Members of the school are competent in several languages including French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Flemish and Anglo-Saxon. Robert Price has written Decision Making in Organisations in the Financial Times/Pitman series.
