Current students' views

Here's a selection of views from a student survey in early 2012 asking current students what they'd say to a prospective student:

  • The UCS History dept. is brilliant. The support is great, the people are lovely and the history is awesome. Would recommend to anybody!!
  • I've had a brilliant time. An excellent team of lecturers who care about their students. I've learnt so much and gained so much confidence. Thank you!
  • Could not be happier! The course has been amazing and I have learnt so much and developed my skills greatly.
  • The lecturers are great and really know their stuff!
  • Really enjoying it so far.
  • Do it, it really is a choice you will not regret!
  • I would recommended History at UCS. The staff are amazing, and so supportive. I feel that I have developed so much since starting my course; one of the best decisions I have ever made!!!
  • Go for it - History is one of the most rewarding subjects you can study!!
  • Without any hesitation I would recommend it. The small class size allows you to know everyone in the class and the lecturers to know you by name. The staff are fantastic and offer support and guidance if and when you need it. The modules cater for all areas of interest in history. And overall it's a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
  • It is an inspiring and satisfying course which not only teaches you the facts but also how to think outside of the box. The skills you develop are so important to progression and so much has been achieved already in year one!
  • Interesting modules and very friendly and supportive staff, so if you enjoy history go for it!
  • Definitely do it. One of the best experiences!
  • Staff are really helpful and friendly, the modules are interesting.
  • It's the best thing I've done for years, but make sure you have enough hours to be able to read, reflect, comprehend and participate.
  • History is everything!
  • The modules have been a fresh break from what I was studying at A-Level.
  • History at UCS gives anyone interested in the subject a chance to look at more than just wars and monarchs. With module options on gender history, rural history, family and even local history you are able to explore angles on the subject most universities do not offer modules in. That is what really appealed to me when deciding upon my university.
  • The staff are really friendly and so helpful. Always willing to aid you in your studies. Also the staff are more than willing to take your feedback/comments on board and they do actually make changes. The modules are really interesting and even if it is a slightly boring topic one week, the lecturers try their best to make it enjoyable! Staff set up social events like quizzes and these are always lots of fun. The History staff at UCS are so kind and they make studying so much better.
  • Make sure you go to the lectures and do all the reading otherwise seminars will be harder to follow but it's worth it!
  • It's brilliant and challenging!
  • Believe in your own ability. Miracles really do happen in the third year!
  • Being a smaller university it certainly feels more friendly and welcoming than some I visited.
  • Small size, great location and interesting modules - talk to a member of staff (they are SO friendly!!!)
  • Enjoy every moment since it flies by too quickly!
  • The teaching is brilliant. Mixed ages of students - although I would like to see more mature students join us. Small and friendly - upcoming and fun!
  • I absolutely love all the choices of topic on offer and the skills they develop.
  • The whole experience has been challenging and exciting - it has given me a major change of direction and reinvigorated me.
  • Do all your reading, attend all the lectures and take notes, prepare for seminars, revise in time for the exam, and get your assignments in on time. BUT overall enjoy your time at UNI, it's the best time of your life!
  • It's pure indulgence!
  • I would recommend this university to anyone because of the effort and hard work I have observed by all members of staff while attending this institution. Every time I walk into the buildings the atmosphere is always positive.
  • Work hard, play hard etc...
  • It's interesting and although the workload has been stressful at times it's a fun experience. The supportive and very helpful tutors have always been there for me if I needed any help or advice.
  • Go for it! Its brilliant :)
  • Do it!
