Russell Walker, Senior Lecturer for the Graphic Design and Graphic Design (Graphic Illustration) courses at UCS Ipswich, has recently been published in the Winter 2011 edition of Illustration magazine. Showcasing Russell’s approach to designing his own annual Christmas card, something he has been doing since the age of 6, the article takes a light-hearted look at the process behind his work from the perspective of how he generates ideas and develops these into his distinctive visual style. Sitting alongside articles about Senior Fellow of the UCS Graphic Design course, Brian Grimwood; renowned poster artist of the early twentieth century, Edward McKnight Kauffer; and children’s book illustrator Enid Marx; this quarterly edition of Illustration magazine is a must for anyone who is interested in contemporary and historical applied image making.
This publication marks another showcase for Russell Walker’s work after his successful retrospective exhibition, Friends and Acquaintances, at the Waterfront Gallery in 2010, and his inclusion in the Association of Illustrators Images 33 book and exhibition in 2009.
Published by Guineapiguana Publications Ltd, the Illustration magazine is available from the British Library and Tate Britain, by subscription from www.illustration-mag.com|, and is a forthcoming title at the UCS Library in Ipswich.
