FdA Salon Management

Overview

This course provides an opportunity to gain new ideas, greater confidence and professionalism within the expanding hairdressing and beauty therapy industries. The course provides a sound understanding of all aspects of setting up and running a salon, including business management techniques, people management, budgets and accounts, and business theory. The course also covers the increasingly complex legal issues involved in business.

The course offers an excellent opportunity for learning at degree level whilst working in the hairdressing and beauty therapy industry, and will enhance career prospects in the sector.

Content and Modules

This modular degree covers aspects of hairdressing and beauty therapy, combined with general business management. In addition to hairdressing and beauty therapy modules, the course offers business management modules.

Modules include: Customer and Client Care, Entrepreneurship, The Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Business Environment, Financial and Strategic Planning, Small Business Management, Human Resource Management, Research Skills and Problem-Solving, Business Law, and Health and Safety.

Classes are scheduled two days per week, giving students the opportunity to balance course attendance with their employment in the sector.

Further Information

Assessment for this course is based on students work situation wherever possible. There are a variety of methods used such as assignments, group projects, presentations and the analysis of case studies.

The experience and knowledge gained from this degree will enhance career prospects in the hairdressing and beauty sectors. Alternatively students can progress to the final year of BA (Hons) Professional Studies or BA (Hons) Business Management at UCS.
