Overview
Improving the health of the nation continues to be at the forefront of the Governments’ agenda, which increases the need for public health improvement, protection and education.
This course has been developed to provide students, who work in a relevant health or social care setting, with the knowledge, skills and competencies for promoting public health for individual service users and their local communities.
Content and Modules
Students study eight modules. Each module includes teaching in the classroom and via the UCS Virtual Learning Environment. This allows students to discuss and learn with their peers whilst they are working in practice.
The course is normally delivered during twilight or evening teaching hours, with students attending campus once a fortnight. Students will be expected to undertake private study to meet the requirements of the course.

Work-based learning forms a substantial part of this course. The onus is on the student to gather evidence to meet the outcomes within the work-based learning handbook, with support from a named member of staff who will be appropriately qualified and experienced to guide them as and when necessary.
Further Information
Students will be assessed in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the course. Theory will be assessed in the form of assignments, presentations and examinations.
Graduates are likely to have increased job satisfaction and better career prospects. They can also progress to the final year of a related Honours degree at UCS.
