Principles of Psychology for Criminology

Rationale

This module will introduce students to key approaches within the discipline of psychology and give them an understanding of how human behaviour is influenced by biological processes, social learning and development, psychodynamic, and cognitive processes. Students will be introduced to key research that has informed the discipline of psychology as a whole. Studying psychology will complement learning in criminology by elucidating the impact of psychology on individual, group and societal behaviour. The emphasis in this module is to provide students with a grounding in psychology that will particularly highlight a number of areas in which psychology has made a contribution to an understanding deviance and criminal behaviour.
