Rationale
This module introduces students to some of the key thinkers that have influenced criminology and requires learners to engage at an early stage with original concepts. Students will be introduced to the history of criminological thought through the works of ‘grand masters’, offering a combination of stimulating biographical fact with historical and cultural context. Students will compare competing approaches as they explore the ‘social’ contagion that is crime; placing Criminology as a discipline that is subject to a number of influences. This module will provide the foundation knowledge that will enable students to fully engage with the discipline that is Criminology.
