Professional Practice runs the from the 2nd year right up to graduation. It is delivered in three modules detailed below. Attending extracurricular activities listed under the header 'Teaching and Learning Strategies' are crucial for successful engagement with this module
Professional Practice 1 Credit Points: 10
Professional Practice 1 will introduce students to practical, investigative and analytical skills, which will allow them to gain an insight into business, legal, ethical, operational and methodological issues relevant to the creative industries. This will include issues of self-employment and entrepreneurship, professional networks and highlight the importance of networking.
Students will also develop a simple yet effective 'working' portfolio that is appropriate to show to peers, photographic practitioners and to market themselves to their intended audience. The portfolio should feature both coursework and independent projects or commercial work, if undertaken.
Professional Practice 2 Credit Points: 10
Students will prepare their work placement for the summer and develop a simple, yet elegant and effective website that is appropriate to market themselves to their intended audience. The website should focus on presenting the work produced in the module Practice in Context that runs concurrently.
This module is largely practice based. Students will be guided and supervised through processes that facilitate the preparation of their work placement and the development of a website. The placement will take place during the summer break. Students will be introduced to design principles and the use of website development tools in Creative Suite or as appropriate.
