West Suffolk Hospital

West Suffolk Hospital

The West Suffolk Hospital has been based on its Hardwick Road site in Bury St. Edmunds since 1973. It is located in a 19-hectacre parkland site on the outskirts of town.

The hospital has around 480 beds. It serves an area of approximately 600 square miles, from Thetford in the north, Sudbury in the south, Newmarket in the west and Stowmarket in the east. This incorporates a population in the region of 275,000 people.

The Radiology Department

The radiology department was completely renovated in 2006. It is a mid-sized department, which means that it is large enough to offer appropriate experience in all aspects of diagnostic imaging, but small enough to ensure that students to feel valued members of the imaging team. Students will spend the majority of their clinical time in the main department, but will also visit the community hospitals at Newmarket and Sudbury.

Why choose Bury St Edmunds?

Bury St. Edmunds is a beautiful old market town, standing in an affluent area of West Suffolk. There are numerous historic buildings, including the majestic Cathedral Church of St James, standing in the grounds of the original Benedictine abbey, the remains of which form the focus of the surrounding gardens and parkland. The town also has an ample variety of sport and leisure attractions to suit all tastes and requirements.

Few areas in England can match the beauty and history of Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding towns, villages and countryside. Legends and folklore add to the rich web of history, which is woven into every street.’ (AboutBritain.com, 2008).
