The Clinical Placement
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has a total of 999 beds, 27 wards and 26 operating theatres.
There are 2 main outpatient blocks and the Colney Centre for radiotherapy and oncology. The hospital is a teaching centre in partnership with the nearby University of East Anglia for medicine and the UCS for radiography.
Colney Centre - The Directorate of Oncology and Haematology
The Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment from Varian Medical
Systems. Patients requiring outpatient chemotherapy are treated in the adjoining Weybourne Day Unit.
The Colney Centre treats approximately 2,000 new Radiotherapy patients per
year which can equate to being in the region of 20,000 Radiotherapy treatments.
The Department has 4 Linear Accelerators, 2 Dual energy and 2 single energy. All are equipped with Multileaf Collimators and Electronic Portal Imaging Devices. Also available for treatments are a Superficial unit and a High Dose Rate Brachytherapy Unit.
Patient treatment is supported by a dedicated Radiotherapy CT scanner, a 3-D treatment planning system and a planning Simulator.
The department is validated to take six students per intake year and during your training you will gain experience on all the units in the department as well as having allied placements in clinic areas, diagnostic radiography, breast imaging, Mulbarton ward, Weybourne Day Unit, Nuclear Medicine and with our departmental technicians.
