Overview
This degree enables students to develop in-depth knowledge of promotion of health and wellbeing. Students gain specialist knowledge, methods and skills in health and wellbeing and will learn how to develop health promotion strategies representing local, national and global needs. The course equips students with the skills to help others to adopt healthier lifestyles, make better use of available health and social care services and actively participate in the planning and implementation of programmes which affect health.

Students are strongly encouraged to make use of the optional learning in industry modules in order to gain direct work experience that is occupationally relevant to the promotion of health and wellbeing. Assistance is offered in finding placements within all the sectors.
Further Information
Subject and academic skills are formally assessed using a variety of methods, including essays, reports, examinations, presentations, journals and case study work. In the final year students will carry out a research dissertation on an aspect of health promotion that is of particular interest to them. Students are also encouraged to develop a personal and development portfolio which focuses on key skills essential to the work place.
There is a range of career opportunities within health promotion, health education, management, research or administration in health, social and education services as well as community based groups in the voluntary sector. Students can progress to postgraduate level study at UCS.
