Contemporary issues in the Event Management Sector

Rationale

The event management sector has grown rapidly over the last ten years and the range of products is broad, from small, community based activities to global events that have considerable economic and political significance.  Events are also part of a ‘non-event’ organisation’s promotional strategies, for example IKEA and BT.  The issues that arise from the management of events are wide-ranging e.g., crowd control or legislation (health and safety to sustainability.

This module examines external factors that affect the strategy and operations of organisations within the Events sector.  It enables students to develop a critical awareness of the implications of these factors and facilitates their development of an academic understanding of the strategic and operational implications of effective event management.  The module builds on the practice and theory modules at levels 4 and 5 to enable the student to use that experience to develop a higher level of applied analysis.  It will also provide students with the opportunity to develop skills of analysis and problem solving which they can use in their future careers

Current trends and issues in the sector will be the core around which these themes will be explored.
