Overview
This degree develops students' creativity, enterprise, problem solving and decision making abilities through a range of skills and knowledge relevant to modern business. The course is designed to meet employers' needs and to create graduates who have a sound grasp of human resource management and good transferable skills.
Students are assessed through a mixture of written assignments, case study reports, presentations, and examinations.
Upon graduation, students can progress to employment in a professional area. Many also enter programmes of further study for advanced professional qualifications, such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management, or postgraduate courses such as the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at UCS.
Content and Modules
Students normally study up to six modules in each year. Almost two thirds of these modules are compulsory, providing a solid core of business and management subjects. The remaining modules are chosen from a range of options.
First year modules include: Business in Context, Finance and Data Analysis, Management Skills and Communication, Business Law, and Entrepreneurship.
Second year modules include: Business Environment, Research Methods, and Managing Organisational Behaviour.
Options include: Innovation and Creativity, Marketing Practice, Financial Accounting, Personal and Career Development, Managing Information and Resources, International Communication Perspectives, and Management in practice - A work-based project for those in employment/internships.
Third year modules include: A Dissertation (double module), Strategic Management, and Managing Change.
Options include: Employment Law, International Marketing, Managing Human Resources, Marketing Communications, Financial Strategy, Management Accounting, and International Cultural Concepts.
