Assessment

Assessment is a key part of all students study activities. At UCS we aim to ensure that all students can be assessed through a range of different assessment activities.

While some courses include examinations, most assessed work at UCS is developed over a period of time. This allows practical and employment related abilities to be measured, and often gives students experience of dealing with life situations. Typical assessment tasks include the preparation of reports and essays, the development of specific items such as art-works or engineering solutions, or the execution and reporting of laboratory practicals or field exercises. Most courses will require students to take part in group work that contributes to assessment and it is usual for students to need to prepare and deliver presentations at some point in their studies.

We recognise that students want to be able to develop and test out their learning before embarking on important assessment activities. Where possible, staff will integrate opportunities for their students to get feedback on their progress in course delivery. It is also important that students receive feedback on their assignment work and UCS is committed to providing effective feedback on all submitted work, identifying strengths evident in the work and providing guidance to enable students to address any evident weaknesses.
