This module aims to:

  • Explore the contribution of family planning and reproductive health to individuals, to family life and to the well being of society.
  • Enable health care professionals to provide contemporary opportunistic family planning and reproductive health care advice.
  • Review the availability and access to family planning and reproductive health care services within their locality.

Content and Modules

What will I study?

This module will provide an introduction to the theory and practice associated with community public health nursing. It is preparation for registered nurses to work in teams alongside and under the supervision of Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHNs). The role will require working with children, young people, their families and communities to maintain and improve their health and wellbeing. The primary focus of the module is supporting the delivery of the 0 -19 Healthy Child Programme.

How will I be assessed?

A practice portfolio based on the learning outcomes and EOE Child Public Health Competences, Level 5. The portfolio will include a reflective account of 1000 words relating to an aspect of practice. Guidance will be provided regarding the construction of the practice portfolio and the nature of evidence required to demonstrated that the outcomes have been met.
This account will include a discussion on best practice, learning from experience and recommendations for future practice.

Word Count: Equivalent to 4000 words including 1000 word reflective account.
Weighting 100%

If you are already registered on a diploma or degree programme it is advisable to inform your course leader that you will be undertaking this module. This will enable your course leader to undertake the vital task of tracking your academic journey.
