Leadership in Child and Young People's Public Health

Overview

This module aims to:

  • Enable the practitioner to enhance their existing knowledge, skills and competences in the delivery of the child public health agenda.
  • Develop the practitioner into an effective leader within their area of practice
  • Enable the practitioner to enhance their existing knowledge and skills in leadership and supervision in order to foster high quality service delivery in Public Health interventions
  • Facilitate effective communication skills and team working in order to improve Public Health outcomes for families, children and young people

Content and Modules

What will I study?

Incorporating the NHS Leadership Qualities Framework and the East Of England Child Public Health framework and leading the Healthy Child Programme

Personal Qualities
Self awareness and evaluation.
Leadership styles, delegation and accountability.
Conflict resolution.

Setting Direction
The environment of leadership, structure, organisation, contexts of service delivery.
NHS structures. Role and function of the PCT and SHA.
Children’s Trusts

Leading for quality

Delivering the Service
Planning, organisation, communication, support and evaluation.
Standards, measurement, evaluation and metrics
Commissioning processes
Role and function of the patient and public involvement forum.

Multi agency and multidisciplinary team work. Partnership working.
Working in teams
Team development and maintenance. Supervision and coaching. Communication and conflict resolution, workload and time management

How will I be assessed?

A portfolio that demonstrates how the practitioner has achieved the EOE Child Public Health Competencies (Level 6) incorporating the NHS Leadership Quality Skills. Guidance will be provided regarding the construction of the practice portfolio and the nature of evidence required to demonstrate that the outcomes have been met.

Learning contracts will be developed with the module leader: 3000 Words

The portfolio will contain an additional 1000 word reflective account relating to an aspect of practice with a leadership focus. This account will include a discussion on best practice, learning from experience and recommendations for future practice. An integral part of the assessment is the use of the network to disseminate learning and best practice.

Word Limit: Equivalent to 4000 words including the 1000 word reflective account
100% weighting

If you are already registered on a diploma or degree programme it is advisable to inform your course leader that you will be undertaking this module. This will enable your course leader to undertake the vital task of tracking your academic journey.
