Creativity and Management of Change

Overview

This course involves developing a critical understanding of organisational change and applying this to different contexts, including commercial and ‘not-for-profit’ organisations of various sizes.

It provides both an understanding of how change can be managed more effectively through leadership and creative thinking, and the opportunity to develop skills of analysis and problem solving. It also enables delegates to develop a critical awareness of organisational change theory and practice, thus enabling them to deal with the problems, choices and constraints involved in organisational change in a more creative and effective way.

Content and Modules

This course covers the following subject areas:

Approaches to leading change

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of different approaches to change
  • Leading planned and unplanned change
  • Understanding and using the political Dynamic

Responses to change

  • Organisational, group and individual – the role of leadership in aligning individual and organisational goals
  • Employees and the “transition curve” Leaders as facilitators of learning and change
  • Learning from change – organisational, group and individual

Analysing the psychodynamics of organisations

  • Organisational culture
  • Organisations as psychic prisons
  • Inter-relatedness of employees
  • Behaviour and influence of key actors/shapers

Creating and leading a learning-based organisation

  • Defining learning based organisations
  • The role of leadership within learning based organisations
  • Leadership – beyond traits and behaviour models
  • Leader as coach – to empower, inspire, facilitate, foster learning, innovation and creativity
  • Toward a collegial change oriented organisation

At a glance details

Entry Requirements:  A first degree or professional qualification of graduate status, or An HNC or HND and three years management experience, or Aged at least 26 with five years’ management experience. Most individuals with line management responsibilities would benefit greatly from the course.

Location: Ipswich Campus (campus code I)

Duration: One evening per week for sixteen weeks (Monday)

Special Features: Provides students with 20 credits towards a Masters qualification.
