This module aims to:

  • Enable health care professionals to provide contemporary opportunistic family planning and reproductive health care advice.
  • Explore the contribution of family planning and reproductive health to individuals, to family life and to the wellbeing of society.
  • Review the availability and access to family planning and reproductive health care services within their locality.

  • Factors influencing reproductive decisions
  • Contemporary methods of fertility control – modes of action, benefits, disadvantages, risks, eligibility criteria
  • Defining sexual health – models and sexual health promotion
  • Sexual history taking
  • Abortion – access, availability, types, legal and ethical considerations
  • Well man and well woman screening
  • Cultural aspects of care
  • Access and referral to care
  • Economics of service provision
