Rationale
This module explores the key themes, theories and concepts in organisational psychology. It will help you to develop a critical understanding of the processes that occur in organisations (e.g. recruitment and selection). The complex dynamics of team working and the emotional and motivational side of work are pivotal topics of this module. The module team will place particular emphasis on the examination of issues and dilemmas in the workplace and the ‘leadership’ problems that are perennially encountered in organisations. ‘To what extent will a critical understanding of organisational psychology enhance leadership strategies’? and ‘How will an enlightened leadership make a difference to an organisation? These are some of the questions that will inform the delivery of this module.
Aims of the Module
To critically analyse current theories which inform and underpin organisational psychology.
To critically examine the functioning of organisations from a psychological perspective and the effects on those who work within a variety of organisations.
To enable the student to identify high quality and effective solutions to lead the improvement of the effectiveness of service delivery within their organisation.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module the student will be able to:

Critically analyse the structure and function of organisations, using concepts from organisational psychology.

Critically appraise contemporary literature in relation to implementing innovative leadership opportunities.
