Rationale
During this module the student will follow a path that requires engagement in critical evaluation of their current practice and make proposals regarding themselves as effective practitioners and the nature of effective practice. The journey of self-reflective enquiry undertaken by each student will improve the rationality and justice of their own practices, their understanding of these practices and the situations in which these practices are carried out.
Action learning sets will give structure to this complex process, enabling peer and lecturer exploration of the many facets pertinent to practice and personal development. The principles of action learning will enhance self-awareness and reflexivity on practice and performance. This module will be assessed via a ‘patchwork text’ approach in which the student will be required to submit staged formative pieces of work that support the developmental journey planned during this module.
The knowledge and learning generated by this activity is of primary benefit to the individual student as a professional practitioner but also to their area of practice. They will develop a sharper image of the effectiveness of their practice and its articulation with the health and social care system and agendas within which they work. Careful examination of the evidence base for practice and the QIPP agenda will provide frameworks for analysis.
