Research Methods

Rationale

This module is designed to provide a fundamental grounding in a range of appropriate qualitative and quantitative research methods and research skills, ethical frameworks and in practical applications of research techniques for Master’s level students. This module enables students to become familiar with the methodological approaches and developments in Social Science research but it also provides opportunities for a reflexive approach. The critical approach adopted also encourages students to question the political, cultural, economic and social context in which research is situated.

The MA learning and Teaching and requires students to examine a range of different paradigms and explore their relative usefulness in a range of different contexts. Given that educators are required to engage with statistical data collection and analyses in their everyday practice “hands-on” workshops are based upon quantitative and qualitative research methods used within educational research to enable practitioners to accurately and confidently converse with, critique, evaluate and interpret the implications of published research, Government initiatives and policy for their educational setting.
