Mother and daughter graduate together

The 2011 UCS Graduation Ceremonies have been extra special for one mother and daughter who have received their awards during the same ceremony.

Natalie Chaplin has completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management| while her daughter, Laura Stiff, achieved a 2:1 in the BA (Hons) Business Management| course. Both Natalie and Laura were presented with their awards by Honorary Graduate William Kendall|- entrepreneur, environmentalist and Suffolk farmer.

Speaking before the ceremony, Natalie said of her delight at graduating beside her daughter: “Graduating with my daughter has made today even more special and a day that we will both never forget. It’s such a unique situation; I don’t know whether I should cheer as Laura goes on stage or sit waiting for my turn!”

Laura Stiff spoke of the benefits for studying at UCS at the same time as her mum: “It’s been great to enjoy the journey with my mum. We have been great study partners, sharing books and keeping each other motivated.”

Natalie currently works as Head of Automotive Construction and Engineering at Suffolk New College and plans to use her new qualification to progress further in her current role. Laura now plans to look for work close to home and hopes to go on to work in a Human Resources role in Suffolk.
