Kathy Sherry has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust since 2005 with a main clinical interest in anaesthesia for gynae-oncology and upper limb surgery. Her other interests included operative risk and the development of the Preoperative Assessment service at Ipswich. She has also collaborated with University Campus Suffolk to provide training for those nurses that have an interest in operative risk.
Before moving to Suffolk, Kathy was a Consultant Anaesthetist in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Senior Lecturer at Sheffield University for 18 years. Her research interests in Anaesthesia have included high frequency ventilation, the pharmacokinetics and haemodynamics of propofol, the cardiovascular effects of phosphodiesterase 3 inhibitors and perioperative myocardial ischaemia. Writings include cardiovascular drugs and anaesthesia for oesophagectomy. She partook in establishing and teaching on a Preoperative Assessment training module at Sheffield University. Kathy has been a coordinator at the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death, (NCEPOD), a Government funded independent audit of patient care. She has collaborated on the authorship of six of their reports concerned with perioperative patient care.
During her appointment at University Campus Suffolk Kathy intends to continue her contribution in teaching and understanding operative risk.
Recreational interests include gardening, herding cats and motorsports. She competes in a Morgan sports car in their national championship with less success than she would like.
