University of East Anglia

Established in 1963, the University of East Anglia (UEA)| has an international reputation for first-rate quality teaching and research across a wide range of subject areas. Home to over 14,000 Home/EU and International students, UEA has been consistently ranked as one of the top universities for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey and has received the highest ranking in its most recent teaching quality audit.

The University has four faculties comprising a total of 24 schools of study. The schools’ academic strengths cover a range of subjects across the sciences|, arts and humanities|, social sciences|, and health| disciplines. Training options also include professional studies such as teaching, medicine, law and business, as well as a number of short course professional development opportunities.

Located in 130 hectares of beautiful parkland on the outskirts of Norwich, the university campus offers award-winning accommodation, sporting, social and cultural services all in one unique location. The University has continually invested in the enhancement of its facilities, with new teaching space, extended learning support and careers resources, and an expanded library service amongst developments over the last few years. Sporting facilities on campus encompass the multi-million pound Sportspark|, which includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool, fitness centre, athletics track and climbing wall and is consistently ranked as having the best student sports facilities in the country. The University also hosts a biannual International Literary Festival which has included famous names such as Ian McEwan and Kazuo Ishiguro (both alumni of UEA's Creative Writing course) and is home to the world famous Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts|, which houses the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection – one of the greatest art collections of the twentieth century.

The Students' Union| is one of the most active in the UK. It manages over 150 student societies and clubs and has one of the best live music venues in the region. It was voted “Student Union of the Year” at the 2010 Club Awards and as the best student venue in the country by the music industry’s ‘Live’ magazine. It also runs the campus shops which are dedicated to providing a wide range of products and services at student-friendly prices, and its advice centre offers a wealth of guidance and support across a wide range of topics, from gaining employment whilst studying, to renting private accommodation.

The latest government research assessment exercise placed UEA among the best research universities in the UK. The University also forms an integral part of the Norwich Research Park| which is home to over 1,000 scientists working in world ranked institutions, such as the John Innes Centre, Institute of Food Research and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.

In 2010 the University launched its London-based study centre|, providing a state-of-the-art facility for teaching, learning, enterprise and engagement in the heart of the capital. Courses offered at the centre range from pre-University courses designed to prepare students for study at university through to a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The Centre is also home to INTO University Partnerships|, who offer English Language courses.
