Career Overview

Karen qualified as a registered nurse in 1984, working initially in Trauma and Orthopaedics and then working for several years as a Rheumatology Nurse Specialist. Karen has an interest in supporting patients with chronic disease and currently works part time as a Diabetes Research Nurse.

Teaching Interests

Karen is a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. She lectures on nursing skills, take part in virtual learning and learning communities. Karen has a particular interest in chronic disease. Karen works for UCS for half the week and the other half of the week she works as a Diabetes Nurse at Ipswich Hospital. Karen currently contributes towards a new chronic disease module that will be launched in February 2011.

Research Interests and Publications

In 2007, Karen undertook a Masters degree at Essex University by originial research, investigating the problems women with diabetes have with hypoglycaemia during pregnancy. Karen works part time as a lecturer within the School of Pre-registration Nursing, in Feb 2011 she will be joining the Foundation Degree programme.
