Dr Steve Barnes

Dr Steve Barnes is a Senior Lecturer and Enterprise Manager at UCS. His role combines teaching the commercialisation of ideas, with encouraging students to engage with entrepreneurial activities, whether that is entering a new business ideas competition, signing up for an internship or using Venture Navigator to encourage start-up activities.  Steve has worked as a process consultant in a professional business incubator (BT Brightstar), is currently a mentor in a new EEDA funded incubator at Adastral Park (Innovation Martlesham) and has run his own business for 12 years.  Steve lectures in Entrepreneurship at UCS to BA Business Management students, and also on the commercialisation of research in the MSc in Regenerative Medicine course (Stem Cell research) and was nominated for "Lecturer of the Year" for two years running at the university.

Steve is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng MIET), a qualified lecturer (PGCE), and holds a Masters in marketing (MBA) and last year graduated with a doctoral degree in education.  His research interests remain in the area of entrepreneurship, and Steve is currently carrying out collaborative research with Dr. Temi Abimbola of Warwick University's Business School, in the area of “entrepreneurial marketing”, and “public entrepreneurship” as well as being an active member of the Academy of Marketing (MAM) as a steering group member for the group and their journal (Journal of Research in Marketing and Entrepreneurship).

Recent activities include securing funding for a new business incubator (the Atrium Incubator), and working with Cambridge University (IdeaSpace] to help the newly formed “Start-up Master Classes” programme that will be running in UCS’s West Building for the next 12 months.
