Frank Stone

Frank Stone’s most recent appointment was Deputy Director and Business Development for University College London’s (UCL) Adastral Park campus. As part of the Department of Computer Science, he focused on knowledge exchange and transfer of the university’s research and its relationship with industry for down-stream exploitation. During this time he also served as the Finance & Public Relations Chairs for the first International IEEE Workshop on Information Forensics and Security, which took place in London in December 2009.

Prior to this he was Network Director responsible for an innovation & technology thought leadership programme for the IP City Network and continues as a member of its steering group. In parallel with this role he was MD of the Norfolk Network, a progressive business to business network, based in Norwich.

He has practised as an independent consultant working on a number of assignments in the area of business & technology innovation and in the cultural & creative industries.

His 24 year career in BT spanned management roles in technology & human factors research, product design, computer aided engineering, multi-media systems, marketing, communications & PR and business development.

He held a number of senior management positions in BT’s technology business, where he was Head of Brand, Marketing, Communications & PR and Strategic Customer Relationship Development and open innovation programmes. He was also part of the senior management team responsible for the development of Adastral Park and the Brightstar corporate venture business.

Before joining BT he was a Research Fellow at Middlesex Polytechnic and The Royal College of Art (RCA). He holds a Masters Degree from the RCA and graduate qualifications from Middlesex Polytechnic & Hornsey College of Art & Design. He has also practised as an independent design consultant in product design, computer graphics and graphic design.

He is a Board Member of The New Wolsey Theatre, on the steering groups for the new Ipswich Art School and UNICEF(Ipswich). He has also served on the Board of Dance East and the Advisory Board for Arts & Business. He was a member of the Advisory Board for the Cambridge MIT Institute (CMI) for two years.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts FRSA

He is married to Patricia and has three grown up children (Ella, Charlotte & Dominic).
