Dan Mayers holds a BA (Hons) in English from the University of Plymouth and a Post Graduate Diploma in Publishing, also from Plymouth. His background is in games-related writing and games design, with thirteen years experience in publishing and development.
As a freelancer writer Dan has written game guides and cover-mounted books and contributed features and reviews to publications including Official Playstation Magazine, PC Gamer, Edge and Sight & Sound before becoming Deputy Editor of Official Playstation Magazine at Future Publishing. He continues to contribute to magazines and websites, including PlayStation Magazine, PC Zone, in-flight magazine Flybe and pocketgamer.co.uk
Dan has served as Acquisitions Manager at Eidos Interactive|, where he was involved with quality evaluation of projects including Tomb Raider, Hitman, Championship Manager and Deus Ex. As a Producer at Eidos, Dan managed projects and budgets and teams and has worked on The Italian Job (2003), Crash 'n' Burn (2004), Just Cause (2006) and the pre-production phase of Just Cause 2 (2009). Dan developed the intellectual property (IP) for Just Cause in collaboration with Avalanche Studios. He has also worked as a designer for Emote Games|, contributing to Emote's launch project, The Hunter|.
As co-founder of a design consultancy specialising in alternate reality games (ARGs), Dan is currently working on projects in the heritage and health sectors. He has also delivered the full script for a game based on a Hollywood licence for Eidos Interactive and has been contracted by Disney to write the script for a game based on a major forthcoming film release.
